The island of Cres is the largest and longest (66km) Adriatic island and is situated in the northern part of the Kvarner bay. It is connected with the island of Lošinj by a drawbridge and with Istria and the island of Krk by ferry. The coast of the island has a lot of coves and pebble beaches and there are only few steep and rough cliffs. Freshwater lake of Vrana (surface area of 5.75 square km) and griffon vultures are one of many of natural resources making this magnificent island even more beautiful. Some settlements which are some thousands of years old witness the historical and strategic importance of the island of Cres since old times, and the life on the island represents an extremely rich historic and cultural heritage. | |
